HKDSE - Study in the UK

The results of the Category A subjects in HKDSE can be directly converted to the UCAS Tariff points for applying admission to the institutions in the UK via the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).

From September 2017, the new UCAS Tariff has been introduced for the purpose of application for admission to the higher education institutions in the UK in 2018 or later. Level 3 or above in any Category A subject attracts tariff points. Each of compulsory and extended parts of Mathematics attracts half of the tariff points of other Category A subjects. A candidate taking both parts of Mathematics can obtain total tariff points on a par with other Category A subjects.

The UCAS Tariff for HKDSE (Category A subjects only) is shown below. Other popular international qualifications in Hong Kong are also listed for comparison. Level 3 to 5** in the HKDSE are comparable to grades E to A* in GCE A-Level, and also comparable to grades 3 to 7 for the Higher Level courses of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
